Fordham Urban Law Journal

For Authors

Submit Manuscript

The Fordham Urban Law Journal publishes five books annually that address legal and public policy issues affecting urban populations across the nation and throughout the world. Heading into its 51st year, the Journal is Fordham Law School’s second-oldest publication and its most cited specialty journal. It is the sixth-most cited student-edited public policy law journal in the country.

The Journal’s books are comprised of professional Articles (10,000 words or more), Essays (5,000 words or more), and student Notes. Each book published is themed, creating a comprehensive discussion around a specific topic.

Traditionally, ULJ hosts a Cooper-Walsh Colloquium in the fall and a Symposium in the spring. At these events, scholars present and respond to issues relevant to public policy and legal discourse today.

Urban Hook

We ask that all manuscripts submitted to the Urban Law Journal contain an “urban hook” in the introduction. Generally speaking, this is a requirement that submissions demonstrate a tie-in to the Urban Law Journal’s scholarly focus: legal and public policy issues affecting urban populations across the nation and throughout the world.

Ultimately, we defer to authors on how best to incorporate an urban hook into their essay. Some essays will contain an inherent urban hook due to their subject matter. However, this is a non-negotiable requirement.

The Journal prefers to recieve submissions containing an already fleshed-out urban hook. However, in exceptional circumstances, our Editorial Board will collaborate with authors to devise a sufficient urban hook.

How to Submit
